The 2026 12 Jyotirlinga pilgrimage with my friend, Akanchha Khadka, was something that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Hi, I am Vikran Kumar. Since my childhood, I have had the dream of visiting all the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. This year was the year my dream came true. What started off as a spiritual journey, combined with the friendship and adventure I was seeking, turned into one of the best experiences in my life.
The Holy Journey Starts

Akanchha and I both understood that the 12 Jyotirlinga pilgrimage would take a long time as the twelve shrines are in different regions of India, spanning all the way from the western coastal region to the majestic Himalayas.
As the journey commenced, we were both excited and eagerly anticipated what was to come. We would be visiting a number of historical places, each with their own extensive and rich history. We were traveling along a historical and holy route that had been traversed by countless pilgrims prior to us.
The Beauty of India
The pilgrimage route had many opportunities to experience the many different cultures of India.
Every location was different and unique. From local customs and practices, architecture, food, language, and dialects; India is so diverse yet the country is unified by the devotion to Lord Shiva.
Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttarakhand all showcased spirited, positive, and faithful cultures. The phrase, ‘Har Har Mahadev’, and the drum beats that followed it, brought all of us a feeling of musical unity.
Other devotional Places in Uttrakhand – Tungnath Trek
Somnath: The Convergence of Sea and Sanctity

In this tour Somnath is one of the places that has left the greatest impressions.
What made this experience even more special was actually being able to stand next to the Arabian Sea as it crashed on the shore, directly in front of the Temple, as well as the long enduring history and the years that the Temple has withstood the test of time.
The combination of brisk sea air and the evening aarti, transported both Akanchha and I to a totally different realm and we indulged the experience fully.
Mahakaleshwar: The Strength of Devotion

Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain was a totally different experience.
The Temple and the complex surrounding it, was filled with energy and excited devotees from all parts of the nation.
The combination of the early morning energy and the temple activities, made Mahakaleshwar one of the most memorable places on this part of the pilgrimage.
Trimbakeshwar and Onwards
Each of the Jyotirlingas, as we traveled, revealed to us its unique quality, in the different states, primarily Maharashtra.
Some of the Temple complexes captured the Peace of Nature, whilst others were nestled in the centers of busy Towns. The local shops and markets, the varied cuisines, and the local people, their ways, and their customs made the pilgrimage one of a kind and memorable.
Kedarnath: The Peak of the Journey

Kedarnath was the emotional focal point of the journey, though all the Jyotirlingas were unforgettable.
Akanchha Khadka and I, along with many others, found the journey to Kedarnath, though not easy, rewarding. The slopes of the Himalayas that we traveled inspired us and explained why the devotees cherish this shrine.
The further we advanced along the journey, the more the surrounding beauty elevated. The Himalayas, towering over us, adorned with a cloak of snow, while the valleys below us housed the drifting clouds.
And finally, the Kedarnath Temple came into view.
The beauty of the Kedarnath Temple, which we found to be eternal and ever-majestic, rendered the beauty of the surrounding landscape of the mountains to be of little worth. For a few moments, we remained there speechless.
Your hard work and anticipation pay off.
Kedarnath Temple bound the group, and the diversity of the group made the journey memorable. The journey contained the promise of the unexpected. One of the many joys of the pilgrimage was the wonderful devotees whom we met along the way.
Some devotees we encountered included elderly couples who were taking the trip of a lifetime, families who traveled together, and dedicated individuals who walked many miles on their own.
We looked forward to the opportunity to converse with the devotees while waiting for darshan and during the meals we shared and while traveling to the next segments of our journey. The conversations we participated in and others we observed helped us realize that the trip was as important as the destination, and a major reason for the pilgrimage was to make the connections with the travelers encountered along the way.
The Journey
We appreciate that any intensive pilgrimage has its challenges.
The grueling nature of such a pilgrimage including the physical exhaustion, long lines and limited sleep, and the fatigue that comes with an ever changing climate seems to take a toll on a person. Despite all of these challenges the pilgrimage has intrinsic value.
The challenges of the pilgrimage helped us define its purpose. We came to appreciate that the obstacles along the pilgrimage enhanced the value of the experience.
Why Was the 12 Jyotirlinga Tour Package Worth It?
The answer to this question is very simple, it was absolutely worth it.
It is an extremely difficult journey to travel to each of the 12 Jyotirlingas. A good 12 Jyotirlinga Tour Package simplifies the complexities of the journey and allows the pilgrims to focus on the spiritual purpose of the travel. For Akanchha and me, this travel package was perfectly planned with flexible travel options and opportunities for the pilgrims to explore.
Final Thoughts

By the end of the pilgrimage, we came to the conclusion that we received far more than we expected beyond the temple visits.
The journey brought me unique memories and respect for Indian culture and spiritual practice, and most importantly, it provided me with deep insights that I’ll carry for the rest of my life. Reflecting on the photos from my 2026 pilgrimage, the one with the majestic backdrop of the Himalayas at the Kedarnath Temple, stands out.
This single photo, with my other photos from the pilgrimage, embodies the faith and gratitude, along with the memories of perseverance and friendship. For me this journey to the 12 Jyotirlingas with my friend Akanchha Khadka, was one of my most cherished adventures. This was so much more than a journey across India.
As advice to anyone trying to make this pilgrimage, I suggest that one must remain patient and appreciative for the duration of the journey, and make sure to give every temple the opportunity to share its own tale, because the memories formed will be long lasting beyond the pilgrimage.
